To break into the fashion industry you should be creative, contact brands directly, and above all, persevere. It’s an extremely competitive world where cool creatives and strategists have to work together to keep up with rapidly changing trends and a demanding audience who are spoilt for choice.
First of all, choose an area of fashion. It’s important to decide which specific area of fashion you are interested in. People who think about working in the fashion industry are often those who like to sew or design their own clothing. However, there are also many other jobs available in the industry for people who possess an artistic eye and a taste for fashion. You can choose between PR, Marketing, Communications, Event Specialist, fashion stylist, personal shopper, etc.
Then, get work experience. It’s notoriously difficult to find internships in fashion. If you have the determination, the talent, and the willingness to do what it takes to become successful, it’s time to think of ways to get exposure and experience in the field and get yourself started. Fashion internships are competitive and to get a position with a major well-known designer or company you will have to prove yourself and show that you have what it takes. Highlight your strong points and indicate clearly how they will benefit the company.
When it comes to the fashion industry today, the most important place you can be is online. Use search engines, blogger networks, and social media to keep tabs on fashion platforms both in your area and abroad.
Never lose your excitement; you have to believe in the beauty of fashion and always wanting to know more. Remember, persistence is key. It’s not enough to just know somebody or have somebody open the door; once the door is open you have to walk through and set up your shop. Consistency is such a simple thing: if you show up somewhere every day and get the job done right, over and over, then things grow.
Hope this was helpful my loves!
